Customer Review: Sweet Blender

I’m a car guy and my preference leads towards souped up diesel cars. My preferences run towards the well built/designed products regardless of price within reason. I’ve found this blender to be awesome, the only things that bother a near perfect experience are the limited run time ( for apple sauce I need to restart it four times ), it’d save some back and forth if it just stayed spinning however long you want it, safety aside of course but — I don’t know why this feature makes is safer.

All in all, a really nice product with some quality construction and great power, the deadspot thing seems true with the hemispherical shaped bowl.

Just hope it last for the long haul now…

Customer Review: VERY NICE!

When our 10 year old blender broke, we decided to buy another blender. Our previous blender was somewhat loud and always seem to have a problem with ice and other hard foods.

So many blenders have a problem because they create a pocket of air, therefore you must stop the machine every now and then to force the material back down. Most are loud, and most importantly… most do not have enough power to blend and chop ice.

My wife wanted to buy a professional blender like the smoothie and coffee shops have, however the costs involved quickly dispelled any thought of obtaining one.

I found a few publications/editorials that rated the Breville blenders a “cut above” most other blenders.

Since we love ice cream and shakes, chopping ice is one of the most important features that a blender can have for us. In fact this is the crucial test that really makes a good blender… it’s motor and how it tackles this job.

We purchased the Breville blender and received it in the mail. Upon opening the box, I immediately liked the design and well crafted parts. Even the electrical plug had a unique design that made plugging into the wall a little easier (which came with a plug cover). All the parts seem solid and thick. The top cover, had a solid rubber seal with a nice round finger hold to open the cover after you’ve finished. This part is also VERY NICELY designed and crafted.

It seems to be made like the old 1950-60’s blenders and my wife was happy about that too.

I got it out, plugged it in and turned it on to test it.

Some have stated that the Breville are extremely quiet and powerful. It is true that the blender has plenty of power, for I tested it with big ice “chunks” and didn’t have much of a problem with the ice. However it really isn’t too quiet. Yes, it’s has less decibels of sound than your average blender, but it isn’t silent either. The motor is fairly powerful, but you can definitely hear it power through those tough ice jobs.

Since the product is fairly new, I cannot vouch for it’s reliability and longevity, but it’s works very well. It appears to be made well and well crafted. We are happy so far.

I would suggest this product to anyone. I especially suggest it to anyone who chops ice for Margaritas, shakes or a blender that is powerful, nice looking and well made.

Customer Review: Works great, but there is a learning curve.

I absolutely love this blender. My main use has been making hundreds of smoothies over the 10 months I’ve owned it, which it does perfectly.

Amazingly quiet, sturdy base, doesn’t move around on the countertop. Looks great. The buttons have no crevices to be cleaned. The hemisphere blade system and the automatic pulsing really do prevent lumps.

With other blenders I used a wooden spoon to try and guide lumps towards the blades, but I have never needed to do that with the Breville.

There are some minor downsides and some habits you’ll need to change when switching to this blender:

- The blade assembly does require significant muscular strength to remove for cleaning.

- The lid assembly requires more strength to remove than other blenders.

- Other blenders can be used with the lid lightly placed on top, but with this blender you have to press the lid on tightly; otherwise the pulsing action will shoot ingredients up, knocking the lid off and making a big mess of the kitchen.

- The pulsing action coats the whole inside of the big jar with your ingedients all the way up to the top, so there is a bit more food waste with this blender than others, which can add up if you make thick sauces with expensive ingredients.

- With other blenders I didn’t have to remove the blade assembly for a full cleaning every time, just rinsing it most of the time. But the blade assembly gasket ring for this blender has ridges that trap food, and that caused the ring to develop a nasty black mold that could not be cleaned off even with my attempts at strong cleaners and boiling. So now I remove the blade assembly and the gasket for cleaning every time I use it and all is well.

- The blade assembly is fairly hidden on this blender, and unlike other blenders you can set the jar on the base without the blade assembly. This led to a disastrous mistake where I failed to notice that the last user of the blender had put the jar on the base without the blade assembly. I poured juice into the jar, and the juice just leaked into the base, which caused a short that made the base permanently inoperable.

I’m a tinkerer so I disassembled the blender trying to fix the problem, and in the process I discovered how well it was built. The base is solid steel all the way through, and inside that there is a thickish plastic sheath around the motor that seems designed to prevent noise. There are some rubber noise isolation parts. Looks like a german car engine compartment inside.

Don’t try disassembly at home kids; the design is such that if you are careless about reassembling it you can cause power terminals to contact the outside metal base, which is obviously not a good thing.

I’ve had great experiences with Breville customer service. Once I called and asked to order a new gasket (due to the mold issue mentioned above), and the customer service rep actually sent me one for free. Then the base stopped working, and Breville replaced it with a completely new blender lightning quick under the 1 year warranty, paying fedex postage both ways.

The new one I just received has a slightly different blade assembly from the old one I bought 10 months ago. The old blade assembly couldn’t be overtightened, but the new assembly can be tightened as much as you want. The new package included a leverage tool for in case you overtighten and can’t remove it with your fingers. I think I prefer the old assembly because it’s consistently easier to remove, but I suppose the intention behind the new assembly was to solve the leaks that some had reported.

I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond for $160 after 20% off coupon.

Customer Review: Breville Ikon Blender

I bought this blender for my adult daughter who has limited ability to follow instructions and the fact that it was “Heavy Duty” and the same brand as two latte machines we bought and love. This blender has a “Smoothie” button which is programmed to pulse and mix alternately without operator intervention.

This blender has plenty of power and although we hope our daughter is now putting the liquid ingredients in first, the lack of which caused a cheaper blender to burn out; this one is making the very thick smoothies she likes.

So, we’re happy with the purchase, so far. It looks good, is hearty enough to handle almost anything, it seems, and is very simple to use with its pre-programmed buttons.
