Oster 6 cup “Clover Leaf” plastic blender jar with lid

Oster Blenders No Comments »

Oster 4917 plastic jar, Clover. 6 cup capacity. Tapered design for superior blending. Clearly marked for accurate measuring. Opens at both ends for easy cleaning. Dishwasher-safe break-resistant jar. Fits all Osterizer blender models. Lid and filler cap included.

Customer Review: Replacement Jar & Lid

Purchased this, because after long years of use, the original jar got some cracks near where the handle meets the jar, and because the center part of the lid fell through during use and was rendered useless, the baby food I was making also had to be thrown out after that incident! This is exactly the same as the original one, Oster packaging and everything. Best price that I could find on the web.

Customer Review: Simple, hopefully durable

After having 2 Hamilton Beach blenders die after 300 smoothies, I tried the Cuisinart Smart Power. Having had it for 3 days, and 5 smoothies, I can’t comment on the durability. But I have a few things to say about usability. First, the squat 50 oz jar does not mix as well as the taller Hamilton Beach jars. Second, the plastic handle is strapped to the glass jar, so drips from pouring the contents get under the straps where they can’t be cleaned. Fortunately, these do not touch the contents inside. Third, the cap on the lid is annoying. It is loose and does not fit snugly. In fact today, as I lifted the lid to add more ice, the cap fell into the wide jar where I didn’t realize what the strange sound was until too late. The blender had no problem chopping the plastic cap into tiny bits - sort of a mini “Will it Blend” episode. (I was able to replace the cap with a better, more snug fitting cap from one of the dead Hamilton Beach blenders.)

The controls are minimal, giving 2 speeds with pulse - this is all I need for smoothies. The buttons are widely spaced and easy to clean so far. The keyboard-like electronic action is much easier to use than typical mechanical buttons. The Hi and Lo buttons either toggle on/off, or are push on release off when the pulse mode is set. There is a count up timer, but I always just look at the way the contents swirl to tell when it is done.

Customer Review: Reviews Almost Scared Me

This wasn’t the model of choice. I had initially bought the Cuisinart SB5600, but when the lower ring locked onto the glass jar, impossible to remove, I returned it and looked for something substantial. The CBT-500’s plastic handle was a turn off as was the shape of the jar. When I came home and read the reviews after the fact, I almost took it back, however, there were some good, positive reviews, so I decided to just turn it on and see what the fuss was about. To begin with, the jar is lighter weight than the all glass jar of both of my former blenders, one Hamilton Beach. I don’t like the idea of a plastic handle. I merely turned the machine on to see what the fuss was about –no fluids, just in case I wanted to return it. The offensive smell was there, but it was like a NEW MOTOR SMELL!!!! Noise? On par with my former Hamilton Beach (I think that was a 700 watt blender) and equally as loud as Cuisiniart SB 5600, another 600 watt blender. This morning, I made my first smoothie. I would have liked more than two blending options. This morning, my senses might be dulled, but the smell is gone. Perhaps Cuisinart heard the complaints and fixed something. Cuisinarts also have a sharper blade than the Hamilton Beach and does a better, faster job. It’s not that I haven’t heard the complaints. I’m aware. I might be eating my words and writing a follow up comment, but so far, so good. Thanks for the heads up on the pouring problem. I went slowly, aimed in a little more towards the middle of my glass and not a drop spilled over. When I turned it back up, it didn’t dribble down the side as the taller jars did. I imagine the rings’ threading are universal on some of the Cuisinarts, maybe including other brands. Can the jar be changed out for a different style? AS much as I dislike the idea of the plastic handle, the jar is lighter than other brands. I’m a little woman and not muscle bound, and it’s not a problem. To those who find it heavy, there’s always the option of plastic, which I saw in Kitchenaid models, but after a while, plastic jars scratch up. I prefer glass, myself.

Customer Review: Just What I Needed,

Starting a new fitness plan, I needed a mixer that was of decent quality. I’ve used many different styles before, from the free shakers given by companies to expensive retail supplement chains products. But this product mixes better than any other I have used before. Shakes are smooth, and the product is very easy to clean. A+

This blender’s powerful, 360-watt, commercial-grade motor whips up margaritas and piƱa coladas, milk shakes and smoothies, soups and sauces, and crushes ice at either of its two speeds. Equipped with a 40-ounce glass container that fits onto a rugged brushed-chrome base, the blender looks great in any kitchen. Its stainless-steel blade assembly removes for cleaning, and the container is calibrated in both ounces and liters. The blender’s power cord extends a full 6 feet, permitting use in various settings: bar, kitchen, and patio. Fully assembled, the blender stands 15-1/2 inches high on a 7-inch-diameter base. The rubber lid with its plastic 2-ounce measuring insert and blade-assembly seal require hand washing, but the container, container bottom, and blade assembly are dishwasher-safe. –Fred Brack

Customer Review: Sub-Optimal: Cuisinart CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender.

Having been a long time user of a similar product (Moulinex Turbo) for 8 years, my old unit had seen better days and was in need of replacing. So, I made some assumptions about the product based on my experience with my other Cuisinart products and purchased the CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender. Much to my dismay, the Cuisinart hand blender performs nowhere nearly as well as the Moulinex did the day I threw it away. The Cuisinart has a blade that is not sharpened. Consequently, it doesn’t cut up food (like blueberries, for instance) very well. It just sort of beats stuff to a pulp, quite literally, and doesn’t puree them into liquid. It also has a system of holes around the perimeter of the blade guard that just get clogged up.

Customer Review: Protein Drink Everwhere!

I owned a Braun Miniprimer Plus Hand Blender, with variable speeds and broad stainless steel housing for the blades. I had it for years and worked great until the motor finally gave up, but it’s no longer available. I purchased the Cuisinart CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender. It is supposed to have two speeds, but really hard to tell the difference and either button needs to be held down very firmly. I always have to use it at high speed and then takes a long time to completely blend. So far I have only used it for light liquids such as protein drinks, sometimes containing a cut-up banana. It can’t chop any firmer fruits or vegetables.

It also cannot stand. The flimsy plastic housing for the blades has 3 little knobs on which this top-heavy blender is supposed to stand. This morning I stood it upright in its two-cup plastic container and it immediately fell over, splashing protein drink everywhere, which then ran under my coffee maker, my very heavy mixer and several cannisters. I am thankful I wasn’t trying to blend hot soup on the stove.

If you aren’t prepared to lay it on its side when not firmly holding it and the container its in, this blender may not be for you, either.

Customer Review: A Real Blender

I bought this to replace a Kitchen Aid.

The Kitchen Aid uses a coupler on top of the motor which spins the blade that’s made out of rubber over metal which will break if you make lots of frozen fruit drinks. That’s what I had happen.

The Waring uses the same type of design, but the difference is that you can buy a replacement ($5.95) and put it on yourself with a wrench If it were to ever come apart. The Kitchen Aid has to be serviced, take apart the motor to get to it from the inside etc.

This Waring Blender is very powerful! It’s loud and spins very fast. It blends in a fraction of the time of others. It makes my old Kitchen-Aid seem like a childs toy in comparison.

Note: You don’t load the thing up with frozen fruit or else it may just jam and won’t spin. Also you’re supposed to drop the ice in from the top while it’s running.

It’s much more obviously commercial through heft, simplicity of design and function and servicability.

It has only 2 speeds. Professional chefs say that’s all you need. it has a simple toggle switch, no multiple speed electronic gimmics. Just very functional.

I originally really wanted a glass container. It provided some heft to my old Kitchen-Aid and I thought that it was a sign of higher quality.

For a commercial application you would prefer the unbreakable quality of the polycarbon plastic as well as the lack of weight. It’s light as a feather.

One of the first things I noticed was that the container doesn’t lock to the base. I was originally concerned, but in a commercial setting you’d just keep your hand on it since it’s not going to take long to blend, and then you just quickly pull it off and pour.

I was also concerned that the blade being permenantly mounted inside the container would be hard to clean. (actually you can take it apart with a deep socket and extension, not for cleaning but blade replacement). My Kitchen Aids came apart for cleaning and I could put it in the dishwasher. I find the cleaning instruction are easy with the Waring, actually simple to clean you should just do it right away once your done mixing. Less time to clean and assemble.

What I see now with comparing this to the kitchen-Aid besides what I’ve already mentioned, is that the Kitchen-Aid looks simple through it’s visual design. It’s over designed through what appear to be valuable features which only make it more complicated. You have to do more work from cleaning, assembling and servicing.

The Waring on the other hand is bare bones functional. It was designed to blend and be easily serviced and quickly cleaned.

Customer Review: What You See Is Not What You Get

Hamilton Beach has made their cutter blades the same way for over twenty years - as far back as I can remember. And I’ve used a lot of them. Never had any problems with them. A couple years ago, they came out with the so-called “wave-action” cutter blade. The new cutter blades are a disaster - an example of how to take a perfectly good design and ruin it. What the wave-action blades do - is slosh everything around in the blender jar, creating a mess. It splashes all over the top cover lid. Not only that, but the new cutter blades leak around the bottom, where the round flat rubber seal goes. That’s another thing they changed. The rubber seal that sits below the cutter blades is less in width. Since I do a lot of blending, I have four blender jars and four of these new wave-action blades. All they do is create a mess inside the blender jar and are for more prone to leaking. I have to tighten the base far more than I ever had to in the past. And they still leak.

With all that in mind, I set out looking for some of the old-style blades. I finally found them - or so I thought. I ordered four of these old-style cutter blades. The photo shown on Amazon clearly shows the old style cutter blade. Ah, but everything is not as it seems. To put icing on the cake, Hamilton Beach has done something downright […]. Get this - they show the old style blades on the front of the box, but are putting the new style blades inside. What’s shown on the box does not represent what’s inside. The picture you see here on Amazon, does not represent what’s in the box. Look at the two photos I’ve uploaded that clearly shows this. […]

Update 3/20/07. I did eventually find the old-style cutter blades on Amazon. Do a search for “Hamilton Beach Commercial Bar Blender Blade”. I’ve ordered several of these and can verify these are like the old-style blades.
